Photos are funny things....

A friend of mine took the following pics of me, and asked if I minded it being posted on Facebook.

I was intrigued as to why he wanted my permission, but when I looked at it I knew why. Although it is not what I would regard as a flattering picture of myself it is an honest one. I find it hard to look at as its a view of myself I don't often have. When we see ourselves it tends to be in a mirror, and I was quite shocked when I was younger to realise that I don't really like my profile. I've learnt to tolerate it now.

What this throws up is an interesting thought of how we view ourselves and way we are percieved by others and how this differs from the way others see and percieve us. And even though we know ourselves very well - how we think, feel and see the world, we never see the whole picture of "me". Thankfully God does, and I am reminded of the following verses...

Psalm 139

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

Now... for the photo.

Ruth...beautiful photo. You have a wonderful profile! :-)

So much of our "appearance" has to do with what's in the inside anyway. I used to work with someone, who when we first met did not seem all that physically attractive, at least not by the world's standards. But once you got to know him he was the most adorable person ever. His warm and giving personality totally transformed his outward appearance. Beauty really is only skin deep, it's what God makes of us in the inside that creates real beauty.

PS - Love, love, love your new blog banner and layout!

It has been a while since I visited! I am glad to see you are doing well.
The strength of the Bible verses here can carry you anywhere! We are all so hard on ourselves, your profile looks great to me :)
I really love that photo on your banner. Beautiful.

hey, i hate my profile too but good post! btw i think he asks everyone about posting pictures of themselves because of legal issues with printing them without people's permission. so don't take it personally :)
